I am trying to help a neighbor with her 2006 Pontiac Montana. She says that she has had a couple of instances when she turns (right turn only??) the van, the ABS are triggered and a Stability System warning message comes up. She brought it to the dealer and this is what the estimate said:

"c0196 high resistance in yaw rate sensor wiring system needs to be rewired from electronic brake control module to yaw rate sensor and from electronic brake control module to powertrain control module"

The estimate was for $1700, which she can't afford.:(

I am thinking the issue is with a connection or a wire that that has been partially cut- possibly around the air filter housing.

My questions:
Does anyone have an idea of what wire(s) I would be looking for?
Is there a wiring schematic that at least narrows down the color of the wires or the pin number in the conector?
Any other ideas?

actually there appears to be a service bulletin which the dealer may or may not have been aware of, you could also try replacing the yaw sensor

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
Tac has received several calls in regards intermittent DTCs C0460, C0461 (Steering Position Sensors), C0187 (Lateral Accelerometer Circuit Range/Performance), C0196 (Yaw Rate Circuit) and/or C0252 (VSES sensor uncorrelated). Initial investigation has found the forward engine harness routed from the EBCM, underneath the inlet air breather box and across/down the transmission may have several points were it may come it contact with the transmission stud or A/C line creating a short to ground.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Inspect the complete forward wiring harness and repair as needed, wrap with protective tape inside and outside the conduit. The harness should be re-routed to avoid contact with the air condition accumulator, transmission mounting studs and or any sharp edges.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
