Hi All,
Another dilemma is appearing from my 73 455 TA.
I imported it in January 2018 and within a week it was on tick over and then stopped. It turned out the middle three bearings in the camshaft had seized through lack of lubrication- this snapped the camshaft and also spun the bearings out. It had some mods done in the US previously we found when it was stripped down.
I decided to put it back to stock as much as possible. I had everything machined but had to have bespoke bearings made for the camshaft due to the failure and how much it had to be opened up. All plugs removed, cleaned and dipped (the full works “) You will see this in the attached picture.
Since the rebuild there were a few issues namely four bent pushrods which led me to take it back to the garage. When he opened it up there was also a few scrapes on the lifters and damage to a cam lobe. When the camshaft was pulled the three bespoke bearings have signs again of no lubrication and came out on the cam. They were originally pressed in and then drilled in situ so lining up the oil holes I doubt is the problem?
It seems odd that it’s the same bearings that appear to be having the same lubrications issue as before.
The machinist who carried out the work is very well known and respected here so I’m thinking it’s not his workmanship?
Any suggestions as to why, how or if this is happened to anyone would be greatly appreciated. I’m losing faith in the mechanic now so would like some ideas if possible.
Thanks again.
James
