8#'s from a D1 is doable but you're pushing it. The D1 is a decent sized supercharger. 8#'s from something smaller like a P1 is absolutely doable and is common. Hell I have 8#'s from a P1 running through my 142K mile TPI motor(not nearly as well built in stock form as a LS1).

I'd go to manufacturer's site and ask - they usually provide a link or an answer. Most importantly - how does the engine sound? Have you owned it long? Are you sure it can handle the ad-on without shooting a piston thru your hood? I'd also consider fattening up the exhaust - more air in = more air out right? Even if the engine IS ok....may want to consider an overhaul --- redo the rings, crank bearings etc...esp if the engine's got 60K plus orig. I wonder to myself if a chip is nec too...
