I just recently baught a 1985 pontiac firebird. I've herd from many people that it has to be more than 25 years old to be a classic. Obviously 25 years would be in 2010 but can i still get classic registration on this car? Is it 25 years for all cars?

depends on the state in Virginia it is 20 years to get antique plates.

I was just looking into this for my 1979 impala man, was just at icbc site, , , , , , ,, , as far as i know you can get it for ANy car, but they are very strict with the specifications of the car as it has to be almost completeley original and stock,,,,,,,,,,,,it screwed me over cuz i put a new intake and carb on my car so i cannot get them, and the paint and everything has to be perfect, hope the site info helps,

Yep - depends on the state - it's my understanding in MO that the requirement is 25 years - and if registered as 'classic' - it can only be driven for parades, car shows, and special events.

Had a 1948 Dodge pickup that I half-heartedly tried to register as 'historic' - told the license bureau lady - 'hell, every time I get in it, it's a special event'. She didn't even crack a smile.

The message is that if you do succeed in qualifying, there may be restrictions on how much it can be driven - which defeats the purpose, at least for my situation.
