I have a 2006 Pontiac Torrent, and this problem just started today.
We took my car out last night and nothing was wrong, and then this morning I got in to go somewhere and the key slot was not all the way back to the "off" position. The keys were not stuck, they came out just fine, but when I opened the door to get out, it was dinging like the keys were still in the ignition.
I tried jiggling them around, but to no avail.
The car starts just fine, and runs just fine, but the keys just wont go back to the "off" position.
They are NOT stuck, the key slot just wont go further back than the "accessory" position.
I'm worried that because the car thinks it's in "accessory" mode, that it will drain the battery and then I will have to get it towed to see what's going on.
Because it's a 2006, and it is my only car, the key is a little older and worn down, but I wouldn't think that it would be an issue if the car is starting just fine. I'm not sure if the key being a little less defined in the ridges would be a cause for it not turning off completely even though it's starting without a problem.
I would have taken it in to the GMC dealer to see what's going on through them, but they're closed today, so anything anyone can tell me would be extremely appreciated and helpful.
Thank you in advance!
