car stuck in park 2002 pontiac grand am?

last night my girlfriends daughter drove her car up to the fence in my yard very steep incline. she parked the car set the emergency brake. well today she started the car pushed the button on the floor shifter and for the life of her the damn car wont go into reverse its stuck and stuck bad. we dont want to force it. i thought maybe hook up my garden tractor and pull it back to level ground. i know this will slide on the grass and make a terrible mess but wil it hurt the car. or can any one tell me a way to release the shifter thanks

is the steering wheel locked hard against the stop? If so as you turn the key try moving the wheel back and forth or does the key turn to unlock the wheel and the problem is only the shifter?
