Every time I turn the car on it struggles to stay on and I have to feather the gas to keep it running. I'm not sure why its doing this but the car has also been sounding a lot different. It sound like a tick I guess but not a knock. My car keeps getting to the max temp, and it smokes a little but not so much from the engine. The speedometer and all the gauges except for the gas and battery one work, the speedo just stay at about ten. What do I do.
I have a 91 V6 Le.
 
you shouldnt be driving the car if it's hitting the max temp. Open the oil filler cap and look for a brown gunky substance. When is the last time you performed basic maintenace, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, etc?
 
I just changed the oil, but I'm not even sure the last time basic maintenance was performed.
 
There is also like a oily type of mixture in my air filter compartment.. I think its from the radiator, but not sure.

when the engine is cold is your radiator full, assuming it has a cap, and is your overflow bottle at the cold line?
 
I fill it up and it all disappears, no leaks. Is the hose coming off the radiator cap supposed to be Hooked up to something?
 
isnt there a plastic overflow bottle somewhere in your engine compartment? if all of it disappears you may have an internal leak in the engine such as a head gasket but first try to find out if you have the bottle. Guess you dont have an owners manual?
 
I do have an owners manual. But where does this hose go to?

the hose should go to the overflow bottle which looks like it's on the drivers side, hard to tell color of liquid but if it's green or red in bottle that is where hose goes.
 
So the overflow bottle is a completely different component?
 
in the picture you posted, isnt the large plastic bottle/tank on the drivers side filled with coolant and if so did you trace the hose coming out of it?

that would be the windshield washer tank or what ever its name is.
 
Ok, I went to www.gmpartsdirect.com , looked up your car and it shows a plastic tank on the passenger side with a cap on it, the metal radiator doesnt have a cap. So exactly where are you putting the coolant that keeps on disappearing and where is this hose you are referring to, attached to the metal radiator or the plastic tank ? Can you post a close up picture?
 
Look at the previous picture I have posted, and the hose is coming out of the plastic tank, and goes to absolutely no where.
 
Pretty sure I got a blown head gasket. and I'm pretty sure my water pump is shot, seems like its coming out of the weap hole.

the tank is supposed to have a vent so if the hose is coming off near the top. it's the vent
