My 2001 Pontiac Sunfire started acting up a few weeks ago by not wanting to start. People told me to try to leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes, and then try. It worked, but since then has done the passlock deal many times, which is an easy enough fix. Here's where it gets messy, now it will not start when I turn the key in the ignition. No security light flashes, which means that its not the passlock, the radio comes on and other lights come on so I know it's not my battery. Sometimes it will start right away and others I will sit and take 15 times to start the car and then it will just magically start again. Very inconvenient, makes me want to never turn my car off for fear of it not starting again.

when trying to start, it what does the car do? click, turn but not start? does the car run fine?

car runs fine when i get it to start, but once i start it again say i go to the store than come out and start it it wont even turn over no click , lights are not going dim, the theft light isn't one the starter is new. I checked the wires they appear to look good. Any ideas

No the engine light isn't on. I should find out tomorrow what it is. Had to tow it to a garage so i'll see what they say.
