So, I just had the trans out for the past few weeks and was doing some major work to it. As you all may know the tyranny and engine come out together on the cradle (out the bottom I might add). Well after painfully reinstalling everything I have an issue with it not starting. I suspect the Neutral Safety switch is not aligned properly. But it is an 03 and has the "internal" range selector which GM claims doesn't need adjustment. My other theory is that the starter is not wired correctly. If yall wouldn't mind taking a picture of the starter and wiring as it is when installed, it may help me wire mine correctly.

Symptoms include: Power to vehicle, Battery reads 12.6 volts and is actually brand new. Hot starter wire confirmed to have current. Fuses checked good. Key is turned to ignition, dash goes black as it should when started is engaged. No audible action is heard from starter. Engine does not rotate.

Using All-Data I pulled up the wiring diagrams, but they don't actually match what i'm seeing underneath the hood and are therefore unreliable it seems.

Thanks guys, hopefully looking forward to hearing from somebody before too long.

have you checked with autozone, they have some diagrams available after you register with them. Another source would be a Hanes manual. Have you bench tested the starter?

The starter worked fine before the engine was taken out, I know from experience to not always assume it will work again going back together, but I need to eliminate variables at the moment.

I'm out of cash almost completely so I wont be able to get a Haynes or Chilton. part of the reason I subscribed to All-Data in the first place, plus more complexity and detail than the little books. However the diagrams I have don't match what I'm seeing under the hood at all.

I'm seeing 5 wires with ring style connectors. 1 of which is the heavy gauge battery lead, that one is obvious where it goes, according to the diagram the small s-wire installs obviously on the small terminal of the starter solenoid. But the diagram from all-data shows just 2 more wires that are mounted to the solenoid with the positive lead, but it is unclear which they are as none of them are actually colored or labeled, all black around them, no stripes, one has a voltage of 4.5v (signal wire of some kind I'm assuming) the rest read 0 by a multimeter. The extras aren't long enough to go anywhere else, I assumed they were grounds of some kind, but I don't see anywhere to ground them. So, i'm kinda stuck until I can get a definite image as to where the wiring goes or I risk frying the starter.

The photo of the starter can easily be taken by popping the hood open and taking a flash photo of the terminals and surrounding wiring harness on the lower front of the engine compartment.

Here's the wiring diagram, I was using, but I am seeing several extra wires with ring type connectors (there are 5 in total) They aren't long enough to fit anywhere else. none are labeled besides being black. one reads at 4.5 volts and the others are dead wires. I'm out of time and money not just for this project, but entirely. A photo of the starter and surrounding wiring harness can be taken above or below with a flash photo.

Yeah, that tranny is not for the faint to heart. The whole engine/Trans must come out the bottom on its cradle. Was pretty easy to put back in though. I think I'll stick to manual trans from now on :) In the case of my tranny, the valve body was to blame. It had destroyed itself. The steel checkballs eroded their seats and the valve had done the same. So, I got a sonnax updated valve body with all new solenoids and valves that are designed not to erode the hell out of the body. No Idea if it works yet as I need a running motor.

ON topic:I need a photo of the starter and surrounding harness so I can identify where the various wires go. That diagram I linked to is from all-data (same thing on various autoparts websites) and it doesn't match what I'm seeing in terms of count of wires and a few other discrepancies. A photo from the bottom.

Thanks for whatever help you can give.

helps a TON. Photo 1, the wires with the shrink wrap and insulators, next to the red wire, they appear to go with the battery lead to the solenoid. Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks. I'll let you know the outcome.
