New to the forum. I have a new to me one owner 71 Lemans Sport Convertible 350 2 bbl. In the process of changing the fuel filter I seem to have stripped the threads on the place (carb) where the 1" nut that contains the filter screws into. I can screw the nut in but it will not tighten firm and then causes gas to leak. Has anyone ever had this happen and might have a solutiion? I'm so pissed I did this since the car was running great but it had been sitting for so long I was trying to be thorough wth everything bringing it back to life. The car had been sitting for at least 5-8 yrs in a garage and is in all original condition etc. Thanks for any help.

Thanks so much for the quick response! I just ordered what you suggested. Also I am wondering if there is a right or wrong way for the fuel filter to be facing. The one in my car is the sintered bronze version with one hole in one end and the ring in the other. Since installing the fuel filter I have had a problem keeping the car running which was not there before. I am also thinking a piece of dirt or something may have caused this but wanted to be sure on the installation of the fuel filter. thanks again.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have ordered the part as you suggested and hope it solves the problem. I am also wondering if there is a specific direction the fuel filter needs to go in? The one I have has a hole on one end and a ring on the other.

That filter goes into the inlet of the carb exactly the way it is in the picture, the tip of the center cone points outward.
