Carburetor Issues?

We had just got this 80`Pace Car Trans am with 301 Turbo and when the guy we bought it from hadn`t started it for a couple months and 6 pumps fire up and shut down, and started it up again ten high idle came on (I know that it shutting off is not an issue with the old carburetors when we were there. it was decently cold there so it is understandable). When we brought it home we had a bit of trouble starting it up, and kept shutting off. It was running very good like it had when it was out where we got it but it just turns off after a little bit. Not immediately, maybe in like 20 seconds.

What I was think is that it is running to lean and need to adjust it. It is about 1100ft above sea level where we got it. It is 450ft above where we are about. I thought being there is not as much air there is not much fuel for it. Here there is a lot of air and is not getting the proper amount of fuel. Help?

Do you know how long the car had been sitting there without being started? If the gas was old did you drain it and refill with fresh? If the gas was old did you replace the fuel filter? If the gas was fresh turn each mixture screw out about a half turn just to richen the idle. Once it is running you can set it correctly.

I believe it was between 2 and 3 months. There was not much gas in tank, was on the empty. Fuel gauge works. We had added half a tank of new fuel to the tank we bought the other day. Gas was not very old before we had bought it. I can start it now with one or two pumps. And goes into the high idle until it warms up then punch throttle to knock choke off? I`ll have to yet set the screws later. I`ll reply back if it helps or not when I get that changed.

Its a fuel problem so change the gas and the filter and look under the car for one too... turn the air screw in and back it of 2 turns .. change the plugs and look at the wires.
clean the carb with spray and Verooooommmmm
