Hey guys. I did some searching but couldn't find a solution to this issue. I knew a forum would be my best bet.

So, I changed the battery in my brother's 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT and now the hazards flash for about 10 seconds every time he starts/turns off the car. Also, when installing the battery, the car started itself right as I connected the positive terminal. Yes, the car does have remote start.

Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks!

When the hazards flash is the security light on the dash lit up? I take it the start by itself happened only once? Is the check engine light on?

Yes, the car starting itself only happened once. The security light comes on and remains on while the car is on/running. No CEL.

More info:
After playing with the car more, it looks like the dash and radio lights are flashing as well when it happens. I've noticed that the period of flashing is about ten seconds. This cycle will repeat itself while the key is in the ACC position. Once actually started, everything goes back to normal once it's done it's current cycle of flashing.

The lights do not flash when the car is turned off.

Do you have another original key to see if the security light goes out? Have you tried leaving the key in the run position for about 10 minutes, turn it off and remove key, and then try to start? Have you checked the alternator output?

Does this reset the security light? I have an intermittent issue with the one in my 2000 Le Sabre.

In certain cases it may permit the system to relearn a key.
