Check engine light HELP

Hello there.

I currently own a 2000 Pontiac grand am GT1 3.4L v6. The check engine light is on and I checked what codes it was throwing. On the computer it says a fuel line leak, or new gas cap needed. I am pretty sure its not leaking from the fuel lines and I purchased another gas cap from autozone and it still hasn't gone off.

Any suggestions ?

It sounds like you have a problem with the evaporative emissions system but you didnt provide the code. If thats the problem you have to take it to a shop that can do a smoke test.
