Clunk under acceleration '96 trans am

My '96 trans am 'clunks' if i accelerate moderately from a dead stop. I took it to a mechanic who replaced the trans mount. It solved the problem for about four months, then I let my gf drive it (I was a slightly buzzed passenger) and the issue returned...could it be the u-joints now? - Thanks

U-joints squeek or make other noise usually when they wear. Do you have a manual or automatic transmission?

It turns out that it was the transmission mount again. Leaking oil from the transmission was penetrating the mount and making it crack prematurely. Its an automatic transmission.
