I am removing the engine from a 1976 Firebird. It has a 400 with a 4 speed manual. I don't understand the clutch pedal linkage that is on a ball joint going into the side of the engine. Does this linkage need to be removed before pulling the engine or will it automatically come apart when I pull the engine?

that is called a z-bar and I believe there is a braket on the frame side that it connects to. In the center of the z-bar shaft is a bolt and clip that you remove and the z-bar will detach from the bracket and the ball on the engine..

Ok, I did see that and i was hoping that wasn't the case. In order to take off the Z bar nut at the bracket I would have to remove the inner fender well to get at it. I was hoping for an easier way.

Thanks
