ALl, I have 78 TA 400 4 bbl. Unfortunately I don't have the owners manual. What I am looking for is what the recommendation/instructions are for a cold start of this engine. I always thought you put the gas pedal to the floor once to engage the choke and turn the key. The car should start under high idle and then the choke will decrease as the engine warms up. I am getting conflicting information and would like to know what the owners manual says if possible or people's recommendation. Thanks!

you have it basically correct, only thing I would recommend is step on the gas pedal about 3 times. The gasoline today evaporates more readily than in 78, the Quadrajets can develop leaks from the well plugs, the gasoline can siphon back out of the carburetor if the filter doesn't have a one way check valve and the fuel pump valves are not what they used to be. In my case if the car sits for a few weeks, i crank it for about 10 seconds to refill the carb, step on the gas pedal 3 times, and then crank again to start.
