as ive been working on my newly aquired fiero, ive been checking out the design of everything. also, any free time has been devoted to seeing what others have done to their american "exotic". some do something i would never do, change the body over to look like an italian car. first off, who do you think you will fool? =P. second, your only changing the outside, the internals are still a "commuter" car. even with an 88 suspension beefed up, with a big brake kit, and a northstart motor, you still have a steel frame under that fiberglass mock up of a gallardo hahah. albeit a relativly cheap way to get a "supercar", its just wrong in my opinion. its like saying "F--- you pontiac" like the fiero is something shamefull to hide under a half ton of fiberglass.
anyway, i like the idea of slapping a northstar, 4.6, 350, or the 3800SC under the decklid. especially mating it up to the new 6 speed. thats a great er-engineering feat, that in my opinion, is what the fiero design teem wanted from the get go, but werent able to thanks to the bean counters. upgrading to the 88, and beefing up the suspension is a great idea, since you would want a car to be able to turn and junk. i personally wouldnt want to slap a big f'in motor in a car and not piddle with the suspension/ brakes. its like saying "i want to go fast, but screw turning. and stopping? who needs that!"
I apologise for my rambling, as i am trying to get to my point. i like all these things, but there is one thing that bothers me, which is a problem twofold; the severe lack of a trunk, and the cooling system. in the "exotics" they have positioned the radiators in the rear, hence the large vents towards the rear of the car. it elimenates the long ass pipes that invariably rust, or become damaged by idot mechanics slapping it on a lift. plus you could use all that room in the front to have a real honest to god trunk! WOW!
ive been trying to find out what kind of airflow you would need to sustain the engine. and also where to suck the air from. the sides are a great idea, but piping from there to the radiator (which would more than likely mount right where the "trunk" is.) would be an interesting task. it would ether have to go around the frame, or through it. another idea would be to actually use those rear sail panel scoop replacement parts for something! pipe air from there to the radiator. although the scoops would have to be more exaggerated, and inevitably made from scratch. also, the air would have to have a way to excape, which would mean redesigning the rear bumper/ tail light assembly to have exit ducting for the air. coupled with a few of the highest CFM fans one could find, i belive it would work.
just something ive been pondering, what do you guys think?
