Coolant in my oil filter for a 99 Pontiac Sunfire?

I took my car to have the oil changed, the guy said he smelled coolant in my oil filter. He said I need to check on this ASAP but didn't elaborate. I haven't taken it anywhere to get fixed yet because I'm waiting for my income tax refund check to pay for the repairs. I literally drive this thing 2 miles every day to work and back. What do you think the problem is and is the repair expensive? Also, do you think I'll be ok driving it just the few miles daily until I can get repairs? Normally, I wouldn't mind walking to work while I wait for the money but Illinois in February is brutal. Thanks for all your help!

If he is correct you can not drive the car without causing more damage. Open the oil filler cap and see if there is a brownish substance. Are you low on antifreeze? Do you see lots of white smoke coming out the tailpipe after the car is warmed up? If you realy have this issue it probably is a blown head gasket but you need a qualified tech to verify the cause.
 
If its in the filter, its in the oil. The drained oil should have looked like a milkshake.

in this case anyway...

Seriously if you only drive the car a couple miles a day you may just Not be heating the oil enough to burn off the moisture in the crankcase ..
an engine must reach operating temperature each time it's run to work efficiantly..
it's definatly worth checking the engine for issues,
but I would evaluate the way you drive to see if that may be the cause ..

it could also easily be an issue with a head gasket with that engine also probably the best way is to have it checked over by a competent shop ..
if the oil itself shows signs of (brown milky substance) you probably have a larger issue than just lack of driving it and will need to have the head gasket checked ..
