HELP! I am cold.
When I turn on the heater the coolant leaks out. With the heater off I can drive all day and there is no issue but it's cold out! There is no coolant in the passenger compartment.

I have the car jacked up and there is a lot of coolant directly under the bottom radiator hose. I know I can start it up and check but a coworker seemed to think that coming off of the water pump there is a heater hose that has a thermo valve that actuates when you turn the heater on and there must be a leak downstream of that but given the proximity of the water pump (back of engine) and the proximity of the leak (under the bottom radiator hose which is in the front part of the engine) that doesn't add up.

Any ideas?

You rent a pressure tester and find the source of the leak.

What Mels said. Find the leak. These cars don't have any valve that only opens coolant flow to the heater core like some cars do.
