I’m rebuilding the rear end on my 71, the only bearing set I find is a AK Set 9. Upon install I have excessive end play which means the tapered bearing is not staying in the race. The O.D. of the race is correct and the new seal, bearing and wedding ring are installed correct, but when the retaining plate is bolted up I have too much end play, like the bearing race isn’t thick enough at .65” No shims or anything and the original races got tossed. Any help??

Googling AK Set 9 does not show an application for a BOP 8.2.
Look up the bearing at NAPA or Summit Racing.

Summit led me to the Yukon AK set 9 for BOP model 35, and the Timken tech line came up with the same. I have searched every combination of ‘71 Pontiac LeMans, rear axle bearings, 10 bolt, 8.2” rear end, bolt in axles, non c-clip axles, to no avail. The machine shop that did my work searched their info and couldn’t find an answer. It’s definitely a tapered bearing,

Try Ames Performance, they only do Pontiac's
