I’m looking to buy a drivers side front cv axel and there’s 2 different ones on con auto and one says it’s for vin code J and one it for one with out a j in the vin does anybody know which Digit the j should be in

You didn't provide a year.
Can not find anything called "con auto".
Position 8 typically tells you what engine but code J is for a 3.1 and the Sunbird never had that engine.
So please provide the year, engine, and a link to what you are looking at.

Auto or manual transmission,and Drivers or Passenger ,those are the only choices for CV axles ,engine doesn't matter V6 or 4 cylinder.
( 4 different axles ) 92 - 94

J is the 4th digit on all Sunbird vins !
