Where is the daytime running light sensor and how do you get to it?

Thanks

Tim

I think if the headlight light sensor(middle of dash near windshield)is not calling for lights then the running lights are automatically on . Hope this helps

Do you know if you need to tear the entire top off the dash off or will that black piece ( in my case ) just come off to expose it? Mine looks like it is setting into the dash to far causing the headlight system to be on all the time.

Thank you for your help!

Not sure how the trim peices come off but I can tell you that I just checked my sensor and I really can't see it in fact I reached to tuch it and still don't feel it with my finger tip.It must sit down in there, however I think my lights work proper, they come on when it starts to get dusk, I can tell you this they come on sooner and stay on longer than my 99 buick's. Maybe GM wants it that way for safety cause they figure a minivan will most likely have kids in it ? I don't know.

in my case it was part of the defroster panel which could be carefully pried up with a small tip screwdriver. The sensor just twisted out from it's holder.

Thanks everyone, I will have to try and pry it up with a small screw driver, and maybe change the sensor. I was out in the van at about 11am and sunny, not a cloud in the sky and the full headlights system was on instead of the DRL

The dash lights were on also?

yes, full headlight system, dash, marker, tail lights, headlights. That's why I was thinking the sensor is to far in the dash. I can get the DRL to turn on if I hold bright flashlight directly above the sensor and wait about 1 to 2 min.

why would the sensor be too far in, did someone push it in? A new sensor goes for $14.63 + shipping and handling at www.gmpartsdirect.com

the sensor does seem to be push down inside the dash a bit, I haven't had
Time to try and pry the dash up yet and try to reseat it, but thank you very much for your help and the parts info.

You guys are great!

Melsg5 wow the prices at gmpartsdirect are low in fact that's the lowest I've ever seen. Now is this all acdelco parts ? and did they ever screw up your order like send wrong parts and how about shipping costs ? Thanks in advance

1. They are all GM or acdelco parts.
2. Never had a problem with wrong parts but I make sure I'm ordering the correct one ahead of time, no guessing.
3. Shipping costs are where you have to decide if it's cheaper at your local dealer or through gmpartsdirect. If it is a part costing a few dollars the shipping cost may outweight the discount price.

MelsG5

Do you happen to know the part number for the DRL Sensor?

Thanks

sorry dont have the part number

Ok thanks anyway, your information has been very helpful.
