I got the door panel half off but could not find the right ratchet to get the bolts off near the door handle. The exact size would be good if you know it.

Does a 2001 pontiac sunfire use metric or imperial bolts to hold the door on? ?

Take one bolt out and screw on a metric nut, or imperial nut.
One will fit, the other won't.
You actually mean what socket size for the bolt?
AF means across flat, so 12, 13, 14, 17 is metric.
7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 3/4 is imperial.
There are certain markings on the bold head which will tell you.
