...GTO ? im trying to find what my 1972 Pontiac GTO is worth has 97000 original and has been parked in a garage scince 89 found her this winter on a job she starts right up and runs like a top has the 400 with a 4spd muncie
As with anything it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for one the 72s were the last of the "real" GTOs there were 73 lemans based and a NOVA based model in 74but they really had lost the GTO Performance image by then the 72s were based off of the Lemans platform also which makes them slightly less desireable than the 70 on back models , but they were still GTOs and most will bring decent money in the musclecar markets I have seen examples of unrestored original cars bring $15-20K in great condition with Pontiac historical socitey paperwork, (original drivetrain, documented paint ETC)
Again it all depends on the actual condition and originality of the car places like the barrett jackson auctions are sometimes the unrealistic measure of the musclecar market ...
just because a simmilar car sold for $1.2Million on the block won't make the car you have worth any thing near that amount ...
On the other end of the scale I have seen really nice examples of GTOs 70-72
go for $2500-5000 which in my opinnion is a more realistic price range to expect in the current market , if you are really interested in selling it Now is not the time money is tight and finding a buyer will be difficult at best to bring premium money ...
my suggestion would be to invest in the car and enjoy it for a while until the market clears and hopfully the econemy gets better ...
I just purchaced a 70 GTO that needs a total restore for $1000.00 it is solid but well warn and I'll probably stick a fair amount of cash and even more work into it but I plan on keeping it for quite a while ..
