does anyone have a pic. of this area on a early 84 duke? also does the early 84 dukes have the ecm by the battery or is it on the firewall? Does the alternator cable go directly from the positive battery to the alternator bolt or does it go from the battery to the stater to the alternator. please help with pics. thanks

There is a guy on this forum with a user name of OREIF who is the guru on Fieros. Be patient and he should answer all your questions when he logs on.

The ECM is under the center glovebox/console inside the car.

The smaller wire goes from te battery cable straight to the alternator.
The larger wire goes straight to the starter.

Since by your many posts it seems you are putting a Fiero back together, Go to this link and download the 84-88 Fiero Haynes manual.
It has all the wiring diagrams for the 84 4-cyl Fiero's with wire color codes and the connector locations.

There is also a specific 1984 wiring diagram (with actual pics) and a electrical troubleshooting manual that can be downloaded here:

did the fiero change engine harness from early 84 to late 84 2.5?

did the fiero change the 2.5 engine harness from early 84 to late 84 ? because ive been noticing a couple of different things in the engine harness, like for example the battery junction block or some kind of coil harness device next to the battery is showing in the haynes manual but on mine it is on the firewall behind the seat . On mine the positive battery cable is hooked to the starter and the red A and B fusible links are attached to the same stud as the cable, also theres a pink wire attached to the other stud on the starter and that goes to the junction box . The red fusible wire A or B goes to the alternator stud. Can anyone shed some light on this matter, if you could put some pics. up of what the early 84 battery area looks like.I believe I have a early 2.5 duke, thanks. Also on my distributer where the wires come out on the side mine has about 6 wires all coming out of the same plug and 4 are different colors and 2 are black but they are cut so im not sure where they go if anyone has a early 84 please let me know where they go and if you have a pic. that would be even better. Just a note thanks for the info on the website that shows the wiring diagram i checked it out but it looks different in some areas. thanks again.

LOL Melsg5. that's freaking funny as all hell. but yeah listen to oreif. i'd trust very few people with car info and I trust this guy (and I've never met him, if you can understand what that means) He also helped me find my current fiero, which btw Oreif, is awesome, and I lost the guys number but I wanted to tell him that he can go ahead and get rid of that bumper I don't need it, and the carrage lights are all hooked up they just needed new bulbs. and they are a very nice blue to match the HID's

Hey there are two things that come to mind when you brought this up. one is make sure the haynes manual isn't for the SD4 engine (indy pace car) and two is some people think they know better than the factory and will try to change the wiring system and other features. So I think you may be dealing with one of those instances where you get to learn a lot more about your fiero than you initially intended too. We will be here to help you.

The harness may look different because some previous owner may have used a later harness. The 1984 harness is different than the 1985/1986 harness and the 1987/1988 harness is even different than the others.

It could be that someone used a later harness (85/86) because it was easier and cheaper to get if the original harness was somehow damaged.

the car is a 1984 2.5 auto. The setup looks like a indy setup where there is no ecm power box or coil on the battery side just a ground bolt and wire from the negative cable compared to other 1984s where theres a coil or junction box next to the battery would the indy set up be right like mine why did the change the setup and when? Also what do the A and B fusible link red wires go to? And where does the thick orange wire with a connector thats near the coil connect to? thanks

84 had the main harness C500 be hind the motor, on the firewall below the ecm. 85+ moved the harness C500 to the right side of the battery
