Does the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire have an intereference engine?

I really dont know what that means but my mechanic looked at this car which im wanting to buy and he said the timing chain is going to go out here soon because its making noise. He said if it has an intereference engine i shouldnt buy. So does it??

what he means is, if the chain breaks and valves are left in the open position, will the pistons hit the open valves. Have the seller deduct the price of replacing the chain and then have your mechanic replace the chain.
