My passenger side door will lock with the door button but not unlock from the passenger side. From the drivers side, you can unlock and lock all doors including the passenger side front door. I swapped out the button from the drivers side to the passenger side and still no luck in unlocking the door on the passenger side so to me this ruled out a bad door switch. Co-incidentally, the power sliding door(passenger side) will not automatically open, so I am wondering if the two problems are associated. I had read about a common problem with a joined wire in the harness under the carpet that could be corroded etc but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what you may have found to fix it. My montana is a 1998 transport version. Thanks

I also have seen posts about the harness on the passenger side causing issues, may be a good place to start.

I found the WHITE wires on the passenger side wiring harness where two whites are joined to a single white( directly below the front passenger door. I pulled the negative off the battery cable, popped off the plastic molding between the door and carpet. Pulled off the tape around the harness, found the white wires that were joined. Cleaned them up, soldered them and BINGO, the door now unlocks using the passenger side lock button. However, I still need to try to get my sliding door to OPEN. I was hoping this fix was related to that door not opening using the open/close buttons but it did not. I can hear the rear "click" but the motor never engages. If I can figure out the sliding door a resolution will be posted.

Hi !
Clean the contact plate and contacts on the sliding door. If you open the door and look at the front edge, you'll see a little piece with five or six fingers sticking out with little copper buttons on the end. These make contact with a plate in the B piller (the piller that the passenger door closes on). Clean the ends of the fingers and the contact plate with a scotchbrite pad. Steel wool or some fine sandpaper will do too. If that doesn't help, look the detent switch that's in the rear latch.
