Greetings all. I'm new here, and own a 2008 Torrent with power windows. My Torrent has 60,000 miles. Tonight it seems the drivers side front window does not roll down. I tried it several times. All others windows work fine.

It's quite cold here, around 18 degrees F., so that may be the matter, although I wonder if this is an electronic issue with the button. I'm wondering if this is a known issue, if anyone else has encountered it. If so, what will be the cost for repairing?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

I would recommend taking your vehicle to your local GM dealership. They will be able to provide you with a quote for the repair as well as diagnose the vehicle. It is always best to take your vehicle to an authorized GM dealership for repairs and regular maintenance. This way, all repairs and maintenance can be documented. Hope this helps.

Before you pay $400 for a new window motor , or whatever they are these day (I've replaced a bunch of 'em on GM vehicles over the past 20 years) I learned a trick from a sage Buick mechanic 7-8 years ago.

Open the door all the way. Stand inside next to the door to your left, and the car to your right. Turn the key in the ignition to the "on" position so the window switch (and everything else) is "electrified". Hold the button to that window down with your RIGHT hand, and with the heel of your fist of your left hand, give the bottom of the inside of the door panel a firm whack. This will usually jar the motor enough to put it too working again. Remember, use the RIGHT hand to hold the window button. This way it is much easier to give a firm whack with the heel of your left fist.

The motors tend to get a bad connection at the very top or the very bottom of travel of the window. I did this periodically for several years on another GM vehicle and saved myself the $400 repair. I only had to perform this maneuver every couple of months, if that often. Those window motors are ridiculously expensive to replace on all my other previous GM vehicles (other brands too).

Aside from that, I have noticed that my window in my 2007 Torrent with 50K miles gets just stuck in the closed position due to the glass sticking to the top of the rubber window channel a time or two in this terrible cold we have had.

...and remember, it is generally not the window button, but the window motors, usually at the bottom of the inside of the doors that get squirrelly after 50K miles or so. The driver side window gets the most use and my procedure will save you from replacing many window motors over the rest of your life. :D

markle,
If you are not able to get this issue diagnosed on your own I would recommend that you have your dealer look into this for you. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime.
Thank you,

Driver's side window

I wish I could say taking your Pontiac Torrent to the dealership to have the window fixed would get the job done but for me that just hasn't been the case. After more than 5 visits to the dealership, the automatic window still comes off track when raised, even after a new door regulator and run channel. I should have looked at these postings first. I'm so frustrated :mad:

@cubldr is right!

OMG! IT WORKED! I have a Pontiac Torrent my first brought car and I was afraid of having to pay for it... but is right!

And yes it does get stuck every cpuple pf months but if this is all I'll have to do imma suck it up and deal with it!
