I thought I had done enough research before switching engines. I just read in Ogres Fiero Cave that I can not use an ECM from a car with an AT in a car with a MT. The 2.5 engine in my '85 Fiero (5 spd MT) quite on me (spun a bearing etc.) so I picked up a 2.5 from an '89 Olds with an auto. I got the ECM and all the wiring from the ECM to the headlights.

How ever I ended up using the head and intake/exhaust manifolds from my '84 due to fit problems in the engine bay and lack of money to throw at it. Would getting a prom from an '88 Fiero with 5 spd MT to plug into the ECM work or would I need an ECM from a '88?

The ECM from the '85 Fiero is serv. no. 1226156 DDB 860122 43776314
The ECM from the '89 Olds is serv. no. 1227748 ANAM 861532 M812214948

Thanks for any help.

To the best of my knowledge, both the MT and AT software is in every ECM. Worked for me, '95 LT1 into a '92 S-10.

will the speedometer work as well?

does anyone know where to get a schematic for my Fiero the ECM # is 1226156. all the schematics that I have found do not match the wires that I have. not sure if this is an 85 or 84 Fiero the info on the door says manufactured in July of 1984.

You will need the schematics from both the Fiero and the Olds and have to match up the circuits. Takes time, not a weekend job.

Thanks glake89, I already have the schematic for the Olds. The wiring in the Olds and the schematic for the Olds match.
The Fiero schematics that I have found do not match the wiring in the Fiero car.

Ok that is great. You just have to draw me a map to find these service manuals that Oreif has posted (where?).
