Hi, I test drove a fwd torrent on saturday. The battery was dead but we were able to jump it. While driving, the engine bucked going up a hill and I could feel it maybe wasn't running on all cylinders. The dealer said they would investigate on monday. They called back and said the battery voltage was the issue. They replaced the battery and said they no longer saw the issue. Would this really cause that issue? Shouldn't they check the plugs and wires and coils anyway? Thanks!

The computer systems and everything else requires a fully charged battery to work correctly. Was the check engine light on also? If so, it would throw a code which they could read. If you are really interested in the vehicle take it for another test drive.

yeah I agree test drive it again and have the codes read or bring a code reader with you.

how many miles are on the car?

You may consider having this vehicle checked out by a third party. if you encountered a dead battery it is obvious they did not perform a PM on this vehicle before they put it for sale.

At least know what problems you are buying with the Torrent.

what year torrent are you buying?

here is a list of common problems or reported issues with the 2006 being the year with the most complaints.

Educate yourself before laying any cash in the dealers hand.

consider the source of these complaints not all may be accurate, not all of these vehicles received the proper scheduled maintenance.

But there seems to be a common problem with the AC and heater blend door, or Air trapped in the cooling system.

My point is if you like the vehicle and the deal, do not be shy check all the functions of the entire vehicle. if you do not plan on working on this yourself, get a extended service plan.

I have seen much worse vehicles on this site. here is a top ten worst vehicles to avoid.

After looking at these you will see the torrent has a good record in comparison.

just makes sure the reported problems found on this site for the year Torrent your interested in does not exist on the very Torrent you want to buy.

Thanks for all the replies. It's a 2008 with 65k miles. It's in very good shape other than the bucking. No rust, garage kept, clean engine. I thoroughly inspected, albeit it was just myself. I am interested in testing again and probably will tomorrow and take all of your advice with me, thanks!

And yes, the check engine light flashed when it was struggling.

I'd also like to note that the car sat for a few days in sub zero wind chills

With the ambient temperature you experience there make sure to peek at the engine coolant-antifreeze. At 65K who knows what work has been done to the cooling system and if they put in the correct ratio coolant-distilled water back in.

Same goes with the washer fluid jug if it is empty have them fill it and check for leaks.

make the dealer give you a zero defect vehicle if possible.

Good luck with the purchase.
