engine interchanges??

Need to know -specifics! I have a 1996 sunfire with 2.2 l engine- im curious as to if this engine will interchange with a1998 sunfire=having same engine!?? Salvage yard tellsme it wont -only to 1995 & 6 ? yet isnt it the same?Maybe salvage yard is thinking a complete wiring bolt up type interchange? Since its a 1996 - Id think the engine would also have obd -2 stuff? Need some experts here on this answer!=Thanx

it appears changes occurred in 98 and at least you need the engine wiring harness and ecm, if they tell you it wont fit, you will be stuck with it. Most sites show 96 and 97 being interchangeable

I think 95 was the switch from obd1 to obd 2. The sensors may be different.
