:( I am looking for bst solutions for engine replacement in a 95 Grand AM SE with the Quad Four. Am I best to pull it from the top, or drop sub frame and go under. I do nt have a lift in my garage, just a couple of floor jacks and an over head chain fall. It looks like it would come out the top with the brake master out of the way, but God, it loks tight. Any sugestions would be appreciated. I have a reman on the way to be here next week and I'd like to be ready to install when it gets here. Of course the son will get greasy on this job.

OK, So my son did't notice the oil light come on or the clacking of the engine as alll the oil pumped out of the engine. The oil filter seal looks like it popped out and evacuated the entire contents in the road. Of course this condition lead to a locked up motor one mile later.

OK, got an 88k motor assy on the way. What is the best way to pull engine? Top or bottom?

I Vote Top! Just my opinion though. I think that is how I would do it.

I pulled the engine out of my 95 2.3 through the top. All the manuals say to drop the subframe, "BUMP THAT!!" It's tight between the flywheel/transmission and timing cover/ rh inner fender area, but it will come up and out relatively easy. Just ensure you get the motor mount out of the way on that passenger side strut tower. My tips to advise: Pull the hood off and place somewhere safe, ensure all of your wiring is disconnected and layed out over the driver fender out of the way, pull the fuel rail and injectors whole. You can reinstall the entire assembly without disconnecting the fuel lines from the rail. The only bear is a engine to trans housing bolt just behind the thermosthat housing. You're gonna cramp your fingers, but it's way easier than dropping the subframe. Good luck!!
