I have a 1996 V6 Pontiac Firebird that has about 120k miles on it. Ive had the oil changed within the past 2 to 3 weeks, and my coolant is also topped off. But lately, when im driving, the service engine soon light will start flashing rapidly for a few moments...then it will steadily glow for a minute, then usually it will start flashing again. When this is usually happening, im fairly certain that i can feel the shift ever so slightly bucking underneath my hand while driving. I got the car in december, but haven't had the transmission fluid changed yet. What course of action should i take?

Your model year should be OBD-II - suggest to find one of the parts stores that offer to read computer codes free - AutoZone does it in this area.

The computer is trying to help you solve the right problem. Throwing random parts and labor at a problem usually ends up costing more than getting it right the first time.

Flashing service engine lamps are to tell you that a major emissions damaging occurance is happening (usually a missfire on one or more cylinders) that can cause catalitic converter damage..
you need to have it scanned right away to determine what the issue is ...
