does anyone know a place in sothern california that can do a fiero motor swap for me everyone i talk to has no idea what a fiero is most of the time and what motor and tranny i sould use i dont really want a high rev motor and dont want a v 8 but i want the low end torqe and the high end hp that would make a 13 second car but still be streetable and comfortabe to drive top speed not so much an issue.

A 3800SC engine swap would be what you are looking for.
Contact West Coast Fieros ~ http://www.westcoastfiero.com/
They do swaps and know many of the places that also do swaps in various area's of California.

What trans do you have? If it's an auto many swap to the 4-spd auto that comes with the 3800SC.

Cost depends on what you can buy the engine for. Some areas the engines are not very expensive. Mileage on the engine is also a factor. The lower the mileage the higher the cost. I've seen 3800SC's sold for as little as $300 and as much as $1800.

The 3.4DOHC engine is nice, But I thought you didn't want a high revving engine and wanted some large low end torque?

ok i got ahold of west coast fieros and they in formd me that as long a im in calfornia im pretty lmited on options so i guess i can do a 3.4 or a 3800 non sc motor and still be ok for smog so of the two witch would be the best for all around power and torque

You know that is one thing I will argue WCF on is the whole you can't get a 3800sc to pass cali smog because I know of a few of them that are on the roads today. Infact, one of the guys that lives less than a block from me has an 88 gt fast back with a series II sc in it. And that car has california tags that are good till next year so it had to pass smog somehow right?

There are only a limited number of engines though that you can have in california. I know that the V8's are generally a lot harder to deal with and because of that a lot of guys will go pick up a 350 out of an old chevy before the gas smog requirements came into play.

So from everything I've read on here you want low end torque, don't care too much for a high revving engine, want something quick and reliable, right?

IS the high revving for the reliability reasons, fuel consumption, or is there another purpose as to why you don't want that?

From everything I've read here, and if you have some more than average skill in an engine bay, I'm gonna suggest you take a quick peak into using a 1997 or older 1.9L TDI and transaxle out of a golf or jetta. it's got something like a 4500 rpm redline, it's diesel so it gets killer fuel economy, also diesel is nothing but low end torque, they're nothing to scouf at when it comes to speed, they are diesel so you know it's reliable and durable, and kinda fun cause when the International is parked at the pump next to you and your pushing 10 gallons of diesel into your gas tank it'll make for quite a show. Oh and 97 or older because of the Urea drip and smog. You don't want to have to mess with that.

LOL :D welcome to the Fiero. A lot of people don't even know what my car is much less have ever even seen under the rear deck lid of it. Every person that has been in my car with me has all said. "wow, this is my first time riding in a what's this called again?" There are a few clubs here in california and they even do some good runs and events. I currently am not part of any but plan to join one in the near future. You can also join pontiac clubs which will welcome you with open arms and they tend to know what the car is. The only reason why I haven't yet is because i just haven't had the time. This car is a mystery to most people though. I actually know of two of these cars in my local area but both are owned by the same old crochety man, who really is a lot of fun to talk to. One of his cars has a 3800sc series II and the other is a fully original Formula Fiero. Very nice cars too.
