When I put my key in the ignition and try to crank it up my car does nothing, the lights cut on, gauges light up and move, everything works INSIDE of the car, including the windows and gear shift. But the engine WILL NOT turn over. I hear NOTHING...

But the day before i started having this problem it drove and rode perfectly. I need my car to work because I need to get back and forth to work, I just got this job and I need to make sure I keep it.

I dont really hear a clicking sound though when I try and turn the engine over. There is no rumbling signifying the engine starting, just nothing. I called my mechanic and he said it could be either my starter or the alternator. But i don't know where to locate the starter to tap it like he said...Any help?

turn your head lights on and have someone turn the key, if they dim out you have a dead battery or a bad connection. since you didnt list year or engine type try looking for the starter near the front of the car or towards the rear near the firewall. A bad alternator will not prevent the car from starting unless the battery is dead because you have a bad alternator.

it's a 2000 GT, The engine is a 2.4L TWIN CAM

Will I have to hoist the car up to see the starter?
