I've been completely rebuilding my fully loaded 1991 firebird v6 for the last 3 years. To put into perspective how much work has gone into this car, it was just put on the road this last march. So it has only been driveable for 5 months. The engine had to come out a year ago and underwent a 7 month overhaul. The cylinders were bored to .040, the crank and can were upgraded to 3.4 components, the engine block, heads, manifolds and fluid pans were all cleaned, machined, and repaired if necessary. I've got a complete set of clevite berrings in it, and a comp cams camshaft and lifters. There is much more but I want to get to the point. I am wondering what kind of external upgrades I can do to maximize performance without totally defiling the engine. I have been converting all of the ignitions equipment to MSD and NGK, and have been working on trying to get the engine to breathe better. I've started with a k&n air filter but want to get more air to the engine. Not building a race car but something nice to drive and show. Any ideas. I am a mechanic but have been super preoccupied with other things and my ideas have kinda run dry. I am looking from other input.
