hi, i have a 95 firebird (base model) (v6 automatic) and there is a 2nd gear transmission start button on the counsel. car runs great until it warms up and then you have to (when your at a stop light) take your foot off the break (you wont move, not even idol, if you press the gas to try to go, it just moves super slow, like its stuck in gear) so you have to take your foot off the break and then press the button, you will then feel the car jump just a bit (locking into a gear) and then you can take off. sometimes though, the button wont help and then you have to take off in like 3rd gear (so you have to take the shifter and pull it down to 3rd and then manually put it into 2nd and then drive. cause sometimes the button dont work to make the car take off from the stop light, so you have to yank it down to 3rd gear, otherwise it wont move when the light turns green, (it will, but VERY slowly, and you can just hear the trans trying to work).
so, i am a girl and i am very confused and i know if i take it somewhere to look at it, they are gonna tell me i need a new trans. I cant continue to drive it like this, cause it is tearing it up.
why is it fine for about 10 min and then all of a sudden when i take off from the light, and you can feel that its not gonna go, do i have to press this button, or yank it down to third on my own?
any help would be appreciated, i have looked all over on line for answers about this button and i cant find anything
remember, its ONLY after the car is warmed up, the only way it will move from a stop is to press the 2nd gear transmission start button OR yank it down to 3rd on my own and take off (sometimes the button doesnt even do anything)

thanks for your response. my trans fluid is fine.
i dont think the trans is shot because it will drive in ALL the gears. i start out in drive (like i should) but then, like i said, it doesnt want to move after it warms up and i have no choice but to press the button, or yank it manually, and then it goes. for some reason after it warms up, it doesnt want to move in drive after i come to a stop.
