firebird won't start please...

...help? my firebird security light is on and car hasn't started i over a month. when i turn the key a dash light that says security comes on and stays on until i turn key back to off position. i have tried all of the key cleaning,battery checking and all of that simple stuff. i believe it might be a ignition switch and lock cylinder
but i don't have enough money for tow and diagnostic and fixing the problem. a friend of mine who is a mechanic went up under the car and touched the starter while key was turned that made the car crank but not start. i was wondering what suggestion do anyone have on what the problem might be

Depending on what year you have it probably has a problem with the VATs system you will need to get it to a tech that is knowlagable with the system to diagnoise it, there is little you can do with it yourself..
