Hey guys.
So I ended up buying my first car this week, all seems to be great except one thing -which happens to be that there is a leak under the front of the car.

It's a 2001 Sunfire Coupe SE with the 2.2L engine.

A friend of mine checked it out and said that since the fluid is a reddish color and my antifreeze is no where near where it's leaking from then it's the transmission. He's not a mechanic but happens to know a good amount about cars.

Based on what he told me, I came home and googled quite a bit to see costs related to a transmission leak but found none that are really Sunfire specific so I decided to come here.

My question is -Is it possible to give me an idea of the cost of a repair like this is for a Sunfire.

And just for your information the car runs perfectly, no problems shifting, no transmission slips, the transmission itself seems to be fine. It has 125, 000 Km on it (75-80,000 Miles), no rust, everything seems great except for this one problem.

Tried to give you as much info as I could being new to the car world and all. All input is welcomed, thanks in advance !

P.S I'm bringing the car to Midas on Monday but I'm just trying to get a heads up before I go.

It could be just the pan gasket leaking. Try to see if any of the bolts are loose. Dont go crazy tightening them, in otherwords dont put your whole arm into it, just wrist tight.

What did you find out?

We really can't give you a cost because it could be a variety of things. As the poster above said, it could be something simple like the tranny pan is loose, or something more complicated like a broken output shaft seal...

I'm curious to know what was wrong because mine is leaking fluid as well!

It ended up being the transmission cooler lines that needed replacement. It was about 80 bucks for the parts and about 60 for labor. It doesn't leak anymore.
