For anyone who knows a lot about Pontiac Firebirds?

I am 15 and I get my licence soon and I'm interested in Pontiac Firebirds. While researching them online and looking at some on ebay I've noticed that some also have Trans Am listed. Is Trans Am just another name for the Firebird, or are they different models?
