Installed dash, now fuel gauge pegs out when started. Is there a way to check sending unit in tank without dropping the fuel tank. My 72 Lemans was kept in various garages for over 20 years and I'm thinking sending
Unit could be gummed up or just not working.

have you checked the ground connection for the sender, no ground the sender pegs the gauge.
You can also try Techron, black bottle, in tank.

I agree with melsg5 on both points, a bad or missing ground on the fuel tank will cause the condition you describe. Usually when the sender goes bad the gauge reads empty, but not always. Unfortunatly you may have to drop the tank at least part way to check the ground connection.

Good Luck

Bought the Techron plus and put in the tank today. I'm hoping that if the sender is gummed up this will
Work. If this does not fix the problem, I'll drop the tank. Any other advice is appreciated!
