Ok. So about a year ago on my 1999 Sunfire GT 2.4L I replaced the fuel pump.
A bitch of a job but i did it. Now it won't start at times again. It turns over but once again seems as though it isn't getting any fuel.
When this happens I listen for the fuel pump to inject but i don't heart it.
OK, so you would think that I have a bummer fuel pump. But wait. It seems as though that if you leave it for random periods of time that a day here, an hour there, a couple hrs there, then it works just fine. It has had it's moments where the the car just dies (stalls) but those are rare and the crack of the thing is that it's almost as if the weather, hot, cold, humid, cold to sudden warm has an effect on it. Once, it even showed the anti theft system warning light after it stalled and I had to restart it to make it go away.
I would love to say electrical problem but I might be just wishing. I will replace the fuel pump again if I have to but i "really, really, really" don't want to.
I need to be sure.

PS: I live in Canada and in this part where I live, GM parts are nearly and sometimes more than double what you folks get them for. (it is very sad).
So, while your looking at this I might need someone to offer up a friends PM chat or what have you so that we can set something up on pay-pal (all legit and with an order chit and receipt of course), if you would?

Again. I appreciate your time in this matter.

Just one other time.
It was really weird.hasn't come on again when it stalls.

Look at the fuel pump electrical connector to see if the terminals are melted or loose fitting

i would check your fuel pressure regulator..... had some thing like that happening to my Volvo, hope that helps.

thanks I'm gonna take it all apart again. any other responses would be welcomed BTW.

hmm. Regulator. Good one. I'll check.
About the security system. Could a need for a re-alarm on the security system cause it?

OK. So whatever it is is coming to a head. I had it out and ran the frak out of it and it tried to quit on me several times. After listening to it at idle for a long time it sounds as though it is about to run out of gas. So, My guess is the fuel pump i put in was faulty (third party. Wont do that again) and or the sender is going out as well. So, I will buy a full kit instead of an oem this time and see what happens.
anyone live near a GM outlet or plant? it's anywhere between 250 - 350 or so down in the States but up here it would cost me over $700.00. Stupid right? Ya..very sad.

Update on Fuel problems

OK. So, after a little while I changed the fuel system relay. It wasn't it. It wasn't the regulator either. I also checked the battery and that baby is still pushing 12.7 volts.
I did notice one thing though while playing with the relay. When the car dies at idle (car still has lots of power), it makes the relay click off before it dies. You can hear it click as it stalls. It took a while for this to happen as it seemed to happen after the car has been warmed and bag tested for a while.
Is that relay not supposed to stay open as the car has power? If the fuel pump is trying to die would It make the relay close like that at the same time? Is there some kind of relationship between the relay and the fuel pump sender that does that?

I don't have any idea what could be causing this but, do you know anyone that lives in the states? Friend or relatives? Maybe they can buy the parts for you and send them to you and you just pay them back?

ya. ill just have to bite the bullet and spend the money. I just so need to know that that is what it is before i order something so expensive.

take the fuel pump thats in there out and have it bench tested at your local parts store. that will tell you whether or not its the fuel pump, or something else in the car

Got a quick question? If I haven't had the car running for a few days and I turn the key on for fuel but do not start it, I hear a fast multiple clicking from the fuel relay (brand new and replaced btw) and I hear a struggle in the fuel rail, a sort of hollow spray instead of the typical flow i hear, like its not getting all the fuel to the rail but if left alone it seems to balance itself out. I do it again after that and it's fine. I can hear a nice flow. I just don't understand the relay's involvement in this. If it's having trouble at all with fuel feed...should I hear the relay at all after the initial switch on? Clearly I am not understanding something here. Has anyone heard of injectors causing this?
