Fuel pump lock ring- impossible

People,

87 sunbird, have the gas tank out but cant remove the lock ring that holds down the fuel pump. There are 2 steel tabs that keep the ring in position, but if I tap counterclockwise to unscrew the ring the steel tabs prevent the turning.

Thanks, Mel. But I just dont see how that addresses the 2 tabs that are locked. That tool just assists in turning, easy, convenient, but useless if the 2 locking tabs are locked. Sorry, but I could not post a picture as this site is substandard, not enough bandwidth. There has to be another way- maybe the 2 tabs need to be bent with a large screwdriver, then the ring can turn(?).

How silly of me- those tabs were part of the pump, not the ring seal! Popped right off. Anyway, thanks, Mel.
