fuel pump

I just purchased a 99 sunfire and it needed a fuel pump so i went and bought one then i pulled the fuel pump relay and turned it over to take the pressure off the system then installed pump and now it won't start so i checked for power at sending unit and no power there. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?

did you check for a blown fuse?
did you use a voltmeter or test light to see if power is going to the relay?
