fuel supply issues

I have a 350 pontiac with a two barrel on it. I can put gas into the carb and it will start and run. However once I turn it off and let it sit for a little while the car will not start. So I put gas into the carb and it starts just fine. I have done a carb kit twice and put in a new fuel pump. Still the same issue. Any advice will be awesome. I am considering maybe changing to a four barrel card and intake.
 
not sure how long is awhile but if the engine is cold the choke has to set, has to be properly adjusted, and the choke pull off has to work correctly.
1. Did you adjust the choke when the engine is cold.
2. Does the choke pull off work and is properly adjusted.
3. Is the fast idle correctly adjusted.
 
Does it have the fuel filter with the check valve like this one?

If it does try removing the check valve and then try it, some are known to stick especially Fram ones.....................:(

I'm only talking about it sitting for maybe 20min. No I do not have that type of fuel filter. I have put in a new sending unit in the tank also.

I have seen some Rochester carbs get porosity fuel bowls , the fuel leaks right through the bowl and into the intake making for a hard start .I used to epoxy the bottom of the fuel bowl during rebuild that would take care of the problem.
Also just make sure the choke is closed tight after 20 minutes that could be the problem also if it's not closing all the way.
 
after sitting for 20 minutes how are you trying to start the car? do you just crack open the throttle slightly and turn the key or are you pumping the gas multiple times before turning the key? In a warm climate after 20 minutes the choke should still be open. When you have rebuilt the carb in what condition was the rubber umbrella on the accelerator pump, distorted or still retained the correct shape? When rebuilding the carb what are you setting the float to?
 
Do you think changing from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel intake and a new carb would be the easiest way to fix the issue?
 
Sure it would if it's a good carb , not necessary though your problem isn't a major issue. .but if you're looking for an excuse to go four ...do it :D

As stated above, no, not the easiest or cheapest but the most fun!
 
Okay so I ordered an Edelbrock performer four barrel manifold and a Edelbrock four barrel carb with 600CFM. Any out of the box issues or tips to making installation easier?
 
other than following the instructions for installation make sure the front bolt on the intake that connects to the water pump is tightened before the rest of the intake bolts.
