My Girlfriend has a Pontiac grand am year 2001. Her Cd player on her radio is going bad and I figured I would get her a new one for christmas. I have a decent one picked out ( here: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_020CZ101/Clarion-CZ101.html?tp=5684#details-tab ) but I was wondering if there will be any problems with this specific unit and installing it. Like i said its my girlfriends car not mine ( so I really would not like to screw anything up ) and I honestly don't know too much about cars ( however I am usually pretty handy when it comes down to it.) I was wondering if anyone could help me out because when its all done I would like it to look nice also if I will need to replace the panel around the dash area to make it look like its supposed to fit there I would also like to know where I can get that. Thank you to anyone who can help

i know from the past installs of veh stereos that you will most likely have to have and extension face plate that will have the radio stick past the face of the original. I have done one where the stereo is flush mounted as well (had to buy a specific system for the car), you would need the key that unlocks the original radio from the dash. The new stereo should have most of the equipt. needed for the install if not go to a install shop and get their advice.

Why not rebuild the radio?

You can get the original radio rebuilt for about $200, which includes CD mechanism, lights, faceplate etc...

Check out this link. Sam did my 05 Chevy Avalanche Radio and it looks just like new and works great! I pulled it on a Thursday night, sent it to him via USPS Priority Mail and it was back in my hands in 7 days. I am very please with not having to program a radio, or by adapters to make an aftermarket radio work like my OEM.
I am not affiliated with SPL, just a happy customer.

Have you been to any stereo install shops in your area? If you need a special kit they should be able to let you know and get it for you.
