Hi guys,
So I'm having trouble re-installing the harmonic balancer on my 71 Pontiac 350 engine. The motor is in the vehicle. I have attempted to press the balancer back on the crankshaft several times however it will not budge (I actually snapped the internal bolt in the harmonic balancer installer that I rented from AutoZone).
I just read an article on HotRod.com (http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/hppp-1212-harmonic-damper-replacement/) where the guy forgoes using a harmonic balancer installer and just torques the crankshaft bolt down to 160 ft lbs to secure the damper all the way.
Doesn't this way run the risk of stripping the crankshaft threads?
Anyone have any advice on how I can get this damn thing back on the motor!? LOL.
Thanks in advance!
