It could either be a bad key or the passlock sensor itself , if the key dosen't work try another (if you have one) if not I would take it in and have it checked for the proper passlock code on both the key and the sensor itself ..
these cars have had some issues with the sensors (which are in the lock cylinder case) and are hard to get at unless you know what you are doing ..
