headlight issues

i have a 88 fiero, the headlights go up and power on, the motor right side however continues to run, and does not go back down when turned off,

what do i need to fix this?

The gear that rides against the motor is probably stripped, you can open it up and turn the gear 180 degrees, it only uses half the gear. I had to do the same thing a couple weeks ago. (as in my '86, an '88 may have a diff motor)

Yes, they are the same (Generation 1 style), there are many threads which speak about the rebuilding, its easy. Just do a search on headlight motors and you will have plenty to read.
