1968 pontiac lemans. Headlights (low and high beam) are not working. Here is what I have done: New headlights, new turn signal bulbs on front and back, new tail light bulbs on back, new fuse, new turn signal switch, new high beam switch on floor and new light switch in dash. Here is what what works: front and back turn signals, brake lights when brake pressed and tail lights are lit when the light switch is pulled on. But the headlights do not work. Suggestions ?

Check power power from the switch to the head lights at the switch, then with the switch off, verify you have ground by measuring the resistance of the hot wire to the ground. Should be some, but not alot. If you get no power, your switch is bad, if you get high or infinite resistance to the ground, it's either your dimmer stuck in mid position or a wiring issue.

I think I found the problem. The headlights (low and high beams) are fed power through the dimmer switch (and thats the only power they get.) I can get the low beams and high beams working by taking off the dimmer switch and just making my own connections across the wiring harness. And that was the only part I did NOT replace. Oh well. Off to get a new dimmer switch.

I had a 78 Chevy pick up that got stuck mid position doing about 85 on the back roads 'round midnight. Got a little hairy.
